About Us

SUKAWITHINIWUK WECHIHIWEWIKUMIK Woodland Wellness Centre

is a treatment and community outreach centre to help support the holistic well-being of clients, families and communities.

Why Choose Woodland Wellness Centre?

Our holistic approach to achieving sobriety in a culturally diverse setting gives each participant a unique experience-

Reconnecting to the land, finding hope through ceremonies and relearning our traditional ways.

WWC Developed in June 2022

"This is a place for healing, and we want everyone to feel welcome here, we want people to come here regardless of where they're at, where they're from, what their beliefs are, what their religion is... You don't have to be perfect; nobody is perfect, we all need help"

Chief Tammy Cook-Searson

WWC Healing Model

  • Intake - new participants introduced with informational sessions.
  • Immersion - into Northern Woodland Cree Traditional Lifestyle practices on the land.
  • Land based teachings - such as setting up cooking shelters, smoke houses to dry meats, setting fish nets, etc.
  • Ceremony - Participants may attend pipe ceremonies and sweat lodges; among introduction to other ceremonies.
  • Woodland Cree language - will be infused with the land, culture and ceremonies.

About Us

Philosophy

Philosophy

Our Nehithuwak's (Woodland Cree) philosophy is, "Everyone is born with a gift or gifts. These gifts are the tools that will assist the person to accomplish the purpose for which they were born". (Elder Sally Milne, 2023)

Philosophy

The foundation of the Nehithuwak is the relationship with the uskiy (land). The relationship with the uskiy (land) is foundational to the Nihithuw itwewin (Cree Langauge), Nehithuw pimachihowin (Culture), and Nitohkemowin (Ceremony). The uskiy (land) is essential in reclaiming our culture, language and ceremonies.
